Hello

In my early involvement with horses, I was introduced to the benefits of the human-animal bond both from the satisfaction it gave me, and what I saw it give participants involved in Riding for the Disabled. I rode, competed and taught riding for a number of years while establishing a career as a professional equestrian photographer.

When the COVID 19 pandemic stopped all the equestrian events I completed Certificate IV in Disability Support and worked with Recovery Options for over 18 months. Chiron Support has developed from there.

My Story

My involvement with horses began at an early age when I would gallop bareback on my pony around the countryside, suffering the occasional tumble on the way. I am now a qualified NCAS Level 1 equestrian coach, Equine Facilitated Learning Level One facilitator and have competed successfully in all equestrian disciplines.

After completing my State Enrolled Nursing qualifications and working in that field for about six years I then obtained my first job in the photographic industry, taking photos of houses. During this employment I also learnt about photographing weddings, studio portraits and framing. I then started my own business, Julie Wilson Equestrian Photography.

While working as a specialist equestrian photographer I attended the Atlanta, Sydney, Hong Kong and London Olympic Games and the World Championships in Rome, Spain, Germany, Kentucky USA and France. My work appeared in every major Australian horse magazine, as well as prestigious international publications.  I supplied the majority of the photographic editorial work for Australia’s most popular equestrian Magazine and website, Horse Deals during the time I ran JWEP.

When the COVID 19 pandemic stopped all the equestrian events I completed Certificate IV in Disability Support, did my 150 hours of placement with Interchange Outer East and then quickly got employment with Recovery Options in Yarra Junction where I continue to work. During the time I have worked with Recovery Options, I have found limited options to engage some of my clients in rewarding and suitable activities. Chiron Support has developed from there.

I have all necessary supporting qualifications;

  • Certificate IV Disability Support

  • Working with Children certificate

  • First aid and CPR certificate

  • Police Check

  • NDIS Check

  • Mental Health First Aid certificate

  • PEG Feeding Training

  • Epilepsy Training

  • Full COVID Vaccinations

  • Currently studying Certificate IV In Animal Behaviour and Dog Training

Over the years I have trained a number of dogs in obedience to competition level and more recently dog agility. During the COVID lockdown I studied a number of online courses in Positive Reinforcement Dog Training. I have continued to train face to face with positive reinforcement based trainers since lockdowns have lifted. Poppy is the first dog I have trained in this way from an early age. I am passionate about the benefits of this type of training in all walks of life and have just commenced the Certificate IV in Animal Behavior and Dog Training with Delta Dogs.
